Party Review: Rum Punch

Party Review: Rum Punch

Name of Party: JB Rum Punch

Date: December 4, 2011

Venue: Liguanea Club

Liguanea club in New Kingston was the place to be for the kickoff party to the Christmas party season. Like last year, Rum Punch was the first highly rated party in December and based on Sunday night, it lived up to expectations. If you were at Rum Punch, I’m sure you enjoyed it and if you weren’t, you missed a really good party.

Although slated to be from 2pm – 12 am, the PARTY didn’t really start until about 8:30/9:00, because when I arrived at around 6, the venue was practically empty. Keep in mind, that was early for me, punctuality is something not known by Jamaicans, as they prefer to be ‘fashionably late’.  At 10, the crowd had arrived and everyone was enjoying the liquor and the food. The Dj’s kept the vibe at a high level and kept us enthralled with music of the 90’s and recent.

Last year I complained about the horrible bar service, this year, it was a little better. I would not say they had more bartenders; the better service could be a result of Rum Punch not being as crowded as last year, but the time in which I received my drinks, was much faster. As it relates to the bar, a disappointment came when at around 11:00, they ran out of vodka, but they saved the bar by making HQ available to all patrons free of cost, a good move I might add.

Rum Punch was all inclusive, and with a ticket price tag of $2,000 at the gate, it was a ‘good look’.  Although I’m against eating at parties, I tried what they had to offer: Hot dogs, Jerk Chicken, Jerk Pork, Hamburgers, Pasta and soup. Not a very elaborate menu, but, for $2,000 I was not expecting shrimp and lobster. Though I must say the food was good.

Rum Punch was a great party; the vibe was high and was maintained, a good crowd, good food and good music. How would I grade the party? I’m giving it an 8/10. Rum Punch ended at exactly 12:00 but there was a bittersweet feeling among patrons. Sweet in that the party itself was “MADDDDDD and did SHOTTTTTT” and Bitter in that it had to end. All in all I must say kudos to the promoters for putting on a great party.

RANDOMS

* First thing, you might ask, why didn’t I give Rum Punch a 10/10 rating? I took off 1 mark for them running out of vodka and another mark for the set up, which was a little too similar to last year’s set up.

* THAT DJ! (I won’t call his name.. but try to guess who) I go to parties to hear music, this one bag a chatting! Seriously, he needs to put down the mic and just play the music. I hate when a DJ talks TOOOOO much...  Just play the music and shut up.  Maybe that’s why I took off a mark in the rating.

* I’m not condoning the bribing of policemen, but jeeezzeeee ….. The party ended at EXACTLY 12!   E X A C T L Y! Not a minute over! It might have even ended a little bit before 12. You know who didn’t get a little ‘dinner money’ ... right?

* I hope no one saw that it was an “all Inclusive party” and went there on a hungry belly. Becauseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!! =/

* Big up to SKKANME! lol

* Shout out to the well known faces that were in attendance like Milk and the always funny Elva. There’s never a dull moment with Elva lol ... *Squares it off*
