Things I Hate about Partying ! [ Part II ]

In this blog entry, I’ll be looking at the things I hate about partying, as it relates to the party itself/Promoters and the Disk Jockeys.  What they do and what they are in control of.

Things I Hate about Partying.(As it relates to the party itself)

1) A Party that is not organized
I hate going to a party and it’s obvious that the promoters didn’t take the time to carefully plan the event. The décor is not on point; it’s the same boring thing, nothing new to captivate the patrons. The decor looks cheap as if they didn’t want to invest too much into the party. To make money you have to spend money!
A good party setup tells me that a promoter knows what he’s doing, and for that I’d definitely attend their next event to see what they have in store for us as the patrons.

2) Insufficient Liquor
What’s worse than going to a party and they run out of liquor!? That’s something a promoter does not want at all and should implement every step to ensure that DOESN’T HAPPEN! That’s a sure flop for any party! The bar should always be STACKED and flowing! The same goes for a party that's food inclusive and runs out of food. No Bueno !

3) Misleading Advertising
-  This is something I absolutely HATE.  I hate when a party says that there will be “X Artist” at the event, which entices patrons to be there, you show up at the party… No artist!
-  They Say they’ll be having something at the venue, when you get there, NOTHING!
-  Going to a party thinking that something will be free and then hearing that you have to pay for it.

4) MIXED DRINK inclusive parties (Some)
This is an extension of my previous point. I hate mixed drink inclusive parties, but this is also due to a lack of awareness of a DRINK INCLUSIVE and a MIXED DRINK INCLUSIVE party. To my knowledge, a drink inclusive party means that you drink all and anything you want. A Mixed drink inclusive party usually means that there are already pre-mixed alcoholic beverages, an unknown concoction. Imagine going to a party that advertised as Mixed Drink Inclusive for $2,000, you go with just the money for entry, you go up to the bartender and ask for a cranberry and vodka mix or a red bull, and you’re told “I’m sorry, you have to purchase that, Only these 3 pre-mixed drinks are available for free” (Which usually doesn’t taste too good) This happened to me couple times this year, luckily, I had money to buy what I wanted. But, this only happens at SOME parties that advertise as mixed drink inclusive. Props to those Mixed Drink inclusive parties that allow you to mix whatever you want.
(You as the patron should ALWAYS have a little extra money just in case… your ” Get Vex Money” or a little “Dutty Money”)

5) Lack of security
A party needs to ensure that the venue and its patrons are completely safe. Inside and outside, there should be proper security to ensure the safety the patrons. I do agree with searching upon entry and NO WEAPONS ALLOWED. Patrons should also feel a sense of security in parking and a sense of security when leaving (For those patrons who have to walk out the venue). It’s a bad stigma on a party where there have been cases of robbery, something like that makes me skeptical about attending the next staging of that event.

6) DJ’s that talk too much!
Ahhhh boi ! I’m sure we all can relate to this one. I don’t think I have to speak too much about it as it's self explanatory. I hate partying and it’s just nonstop talking. You don’t even get the chance to hear the music as its being intercepted by the voice of DJ. Disk Jockeys… KEEP IT TO A MINIMUM PLEASE! ….. There are some Dj’s who are that experienced and knows how to talk and to spice up the party, and with that experience they also know when to take a step back… then there are others who simply takes it to an annoying level. Promoters… please… address this issue with the Dj’s prior to the party.

7) Predictable Dj’s
I hate partying and hearing a song ... and I’m able predict the song coming up next, as someone who parties a lot, if this continues the whole party scene will seem monotonous. I should also mention too the repetition of songs. I was at a party recently where I heard 3 songs, 30 minutes later; those same 3 songs in the exact order as they played earlier. That can really damper the mood of the party.

    8) A Slow Bar
If you’re having a party and you expect a certain number of patrons, try to ensure that there’s a good ratio of bartenders to patrons. I hate when I’m at a party with over 1,000 party-goers and there are only 10 bartenders on hand. That equals to patrons having to spend a too much time at the bar waiting on their liquor instead of doing what they came to do, which is to Party.  I think party promoters should always have extra bartenders on hand, just in case the working bartenders become too overwhelmed… so as to keep the drinks flowing… and patrons happy

If you’re a party promoter, I think you should take into consideration these factors to ensure the success of your party. Addressing these issues will surely help your cause in the short term and the long term in building your reputation as a good promoter.
